CURRICULUM VITAE
Horia-Nicolai Teodorescu
Professor, Membru Corespondent al Academiei Romane
Ph.D.,
Technical University of Iasi, 1981
Research and Academic
Interests
My research interests are
in A.I., nonlinear dynamics and applications in human-related sciences,
especially in medicine. Specifically, my interests in A.I. are related to
fuzzy and neuro-fuzzy systems and their dynamics, knowledge discovery, and
artificial life.
There are many areas at the border of AI and
medicine, biology and economy, where neuro-fuzzy models relate to the dynamic
processes in systems. My Ph.D. students and I are investigating how these
models can reveal new features of such processes, and how they can be used to
create artificial structures that mimic biological, economic, and social
behaviors. Knowledge generation and sensing in biological entities is also an
issue we are investigating, in relation to the nonlinear dynamics. Among the
recent applications we have developed are included intelligent nonlinear
dynamic sensors having, beyond a high sensitivity, capabilities of signal
processing, data compression, data fusing, or features extraction. An example
of such sensors we recently developed is an artificial retina using nonlinear
dynamic neurons.
My teaching is mainly
centered on intelligent systems and medical applications of A.I. I have also
taught a large number of courses in Computer Science and several courses in
the field of applications to Bio-Informatics and Bio-Medical Engineering.
My former students have now positions from senior researcher and group leader at JPL-NASA, to assistant or associate professors in various universities around the world. I have been a recipient of the Innovative Excellence in Teaching, Learning and Technology Award at the Eleventh International Conference on College Teaching and Learning, Jacksonville, Fl., April 2000.
